Based in Hong Kong, the Coordinator/Cataloguer position for Post-War and Contemporary Art is responsible for assisting the Specialist with end-to-end auction, private sale and exhibition management, as well as ongoing client management support. This dual role will focus primarily on administrative and cataloguing support, specifically inventory management and the production of research, cataloguing, expertise, coordination of valuations and support with proposals. The duties are varied, and will follow the cycle of the sales calendar as well as duties to support overall department activity.



  • Support the Specialist and regional representatives in developing Christie’s presence in the Post-War & Contemporary Art category in the Asia region
  • Maintain effective communication with colleagues in other departments and locations
  • Manage client relationships, including composing and editing client communications, meeting arrangements, mailings, correspondence and actions point for follow-up visits
  • Provide appraisals support, which includes research of property, liaising with clients, specialists and other internal departments
  • Provide support in creating proposals and pitches, which includes research and gathering item details and images
  • Manage seller agreement and stock order creation including gathering all compliance documents from clients and ensure required records are maintained
  • Manage shipping requests, including client approvals, export licenses, and scheduling
  • Proactively track receipt of property and follow-up on open issues and missing items
  • Manage Expertise, Framing and Restoration needs for sale including quote requests, client communications, status of service requested and related client charges
  • Manage Property Movement: Request and track site transfers, local transfers, temp releases, transfer to third party, and hand carries, and provide appropriate information to central support group as required
  • Create purchase orders and sundry invoices, as required
  • Manage and track client charges including all requests for creation through central support group and regular review of system data to ensure accurate reporting
  • Research bibliography, provenance and exhibition history using libraries, on-line databases, the internet, and outside experts (such as curators, scholars, etc.)
  • Research property for authentication with artist’s foundations, committees, studios, etc.
  • Prepare and coordinate hilling sessions (meetings to determine value, condition and marketability of property); and condition reporting sessions
  • Maintain running list of property for sale with notes about status of condition reports, hilling, color checking and authentication
  • Coordinate photography and selection of comparative images for auction or exhibition catalogue
  • Write and prepare essays as and when needed
  • Act as liaison to Operations for public and private viewings, as required
  • Manage reserve amendments and ensure relevant pre-sale documentation is sent to client for auction
  • Manage sale activities including client views, condition report dispatch, bids, and sale ticketing requests
  • Telephone bidding
  • Coordination of auction pricing – pulling auction comparable objects for specialist review and pricing sessions
  • Other duties as required by Manager




•             Bachelor’s degree in the fine art category preferred, or equivalent work experience 

•             Minimum 2 years experience in related position in Art industry

•             Strong typing and research skills

•             Excellent communication, interpersonal and client service skills, including superior written and spoken communication in both English and Cantonese and/or Mandarin

•             Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and proven ability to work to deadlines

•             Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize

•             Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills

•             Ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and sites

•             Ability to creatively problem solve

•             Ability to work independently and as part of a team
