Our client is an established Art Handling, Transport, Shipping and Storage Company, with clients across the Museum, Gallery and Private sector, both in the UK and around the world.

Reporting to: Transport Manager

Salary:  £26.5k p/a basic salary negotiable based on experience (with overtime available for nights out & away trips); with overtime, salary equates to around £35k/year

Summary of role

The HGV Driver /Art Handler / Technicians work across all sectors of our client’s clientele, undertaking all of the general work of packing and transporting works of art and other valuable items, as well as getting involved in specialist work including installation and heavy lifting.

The key element of the job is the ability to safely handle, pack and transport often fragile, valuable and unique works of Art, Antiques and museum objects.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake the role of professional Art Handler as defined in training and company practice. This includes Art handling, packing, installation, movement and transport.
  • At all times fulfil the company aim of providing excellent service to clients and colleagues alike.
  • Execute all work as defined on the work sheet for the day and complete all paperwork to high standards.
  • To operate all company vehicles to DfT standards.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of any vehicle used by the individual, and undertake vehicle checks at the correct time and lodge all forms correctly.
  • Liaise with clients and company colleagues in a timely, polite and friendly manner.
  • Wear correct uniform at all times, and also additional Personal Protective Equipment when the job requires it.
  • Maintain security of vehicles, cargo and the company premises and property at all times.
  • Work safely and responsibly at all times, read any risk assessment provided, and do not endanger others.
  • Work on site at client’s premises observing all local site rules and with respect to the client’s property and privacy.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and being available at all times for away trips and nights out.

Required Skills

  • Experience of Art Handling either in a gallery, museum or professional Art transport company or at the very least, experience in a professional removals company.
  • Clean driving licence
  • Observation of health & safety issues surrounding manual handling and Art handling.
  • Cleanliness, attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
  • Ability to work in a calm manner.
  • Outgoing, friendly and helpful attitude, with an ability to work flexibly and independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training regardless of level.

Preferred Skills

  • Licence to drive up to 7.5 tonne Class 2 or Class 1 (can train successful candidates to this level if necessary)
  • Practical experience in an area such as Art, Construction, Engineering or similar activity.
