Conservation Technician, Workshop

We are seeking a Conservation Technician to join our Workshop Conservation team, working flexibly in support of all areas of Tate’s Exhibitions & Displays, Loans and Acquisitions Programmes.

Day-to-day, you will provide technical support for the conservation, preservation and use of works of art in Tate’s Collections, supporting all related programme activity. You will care for, handle, prepare and maintain artworks and their associated components for safe storage, transit, installation and display.

You will hold a recognised City & Guilds qualification in carpentry and joinery or cabinet making or equivalent and you will and have practical experience with broad range of developed craft skills including carpentry, metalworking and machine maintenance. It is key to have good problem-solving skills and to be an effective communicator.

You will need to accurately provide time estimates for activities undertaken, work as part of a team under supervision and independently on a broad range of conservation activities and provide specialist technical assistance and advice for the artworks in Tate’s Collection and Care. Travel between the Tate sites is required with this role, as is having a flexible approach to your work.

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2019
