OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Reporting to the Warehouse Manage the role of the Warehouse Supervisor, King Street is to ensure full operational cover of the warehouses and corridors and in doing so provide an exceptional service to all Auction Departments.  The role will be required to ensure all staff follow Christie’s Art Handling guidelines and adopt 5S as the methodology for managing property within the warehouse zones.  Other key responsibilities include maintaining operational excellence with the safe handling, storage and transportation of property through Christie’s King Street and ensuring all operational activities and staff coverage is managed efficiently and dynamically.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks:

(Duties include but are not limited to the following)

  • Manage a team of Art Technicians,  set meaningful KPIs and objectives and manage ongoing development of a high performing team members and ensuring appropriate objectives and development plans are in place
  • Support the Warehouse Manager through collaborating with other Warehouse Supervisors to ensure full operational cover to other Warehouses to meet the needs of the business
  • To manage and conduct Safe Art Handling and Christie’s Systems training for Art Handlers
  • Keep the basement corridor clear of combustibles and partner with the Warehouse Manager to manage and control the transfer of artworks to off-site storage; to provide Art Handler support for both processes when required
  • Adhere to the principals of 5S, Sort, Set In order, Shine, Standardise and Sustain to ensure all warehouses have a very high standard of cleanliness and organisation, befitting the world’s leading art business
  • Perform physical bi-annual stock checks and ensure all warehouses have a 100% item location accuracy
  • Manage warehouse zones to ensure all fine art property is safely and securely stored, this includes removing non-fine art property from the warehouses and ensuring adherence to crate and oversize arrangements
  • Manage and control the flow of Christie’s products, ensuring all items are tagged and condition checked with all product movement recorded accurately in the IT Inventory system
  • Report any damages, losses or discrepancies as soon as they happen
  • Preparing the artworks for pre-sale, lotting up, and re-framing where necessary
  • Logistical support for specialists during cataloguing and hilling sessions
  • Liaise with photographers, Specialist Departments, Marketing and restorers to ensure all artworks are shot for the catalogue and artworks are ready for auction viewing
  • Liaise with saleroom supervisor (pre-sale) to ensure the sale is ready to transfer at the pre-agreed date
  • Assist saleroom art handlers with setting up of the pre-sale views, using the knowledge gained during pre-sale storage and handling to advise on specific handling and installing issues
  • In alignment with Christie’s Core Values to champion teamwork and respect with key partners, to collaborate via regular meetings and discussion, ensuring clarity and transparency of expectations and agreed deliverables
  • Track & monitor KPI’s which help to measure both personal & team performance against metrics such as damages percentages and cycle counting
  • Other duties as assigned by manager
