Conservator, Time-based Media

Art Advisory, Art Fairs, Art Logistics, Art Museums and Institutions
   Location: London
   Salary: £31,742
Experience: Mid Level
  Organisation: Tate
Deadline: 23/06/2019

We are seeking a time-based media conservator to work within our Time-based Media Conservation team supporting a dynamic programme. This role will work on delivering an active loans programme and will require the understanding of individual artworks, their production techniques and technical requirements, as well as of risks for display and preservation. In this role you will undertake collection care and preventive conservation activity and as such have the opportunity to contribute to the development of strategies, procedures and workflows for the preservation of the works in the Collection.

You will either hold a recognised qualification in conservation or have equivalent relevant experience of working with time-based media artworks. In addition to this, you will have demonstrable understanding of the issues associated with time-based media artworks and equipment, as well as emerging themes and challenges within the discipline of time-based media conservation.

To be successful in this role you will need to be able to work independently on the examination, treatment, preparation and installation of time-based media artworks. This includes documentation of the artworks and associated equipment, so good IT skills are a key.

Providing specialist advice to a range of stakeholders is a big part of this role, so effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, are crucial. This is a varied and busy role and will require you to put in use your effective organisational, time management and planning skills.
