Our client, an international contemporary gallery based in London, is seeking a Communications Manager to join their team. The gallery is looking for a driven, flexible, creative and hands-on person who enjoys working in a team within a fast-paced and dynamic environment and that has considerable experience in an arts PR role.
The ideal candidate will have experience of developing editorial concepts, a network of press contacts, a track record of placing strong media coverage and a good understanding of the art world. Meticulous attention to detail is essential, along with the ability to prioritise a varied workload and take a collaborative approach.
Role Specification:
  • Developing strategic, integrated PR campaigns for exhibitions and international art fairs
  • Managing and implementing proactive publicity campaigns with an international focus
  • Building a network of press contacts in specific territories to secure and grow press coverage
  • Drafting communications materials including exhibition announcements, press releases etc. for review and approval
  • Drafting, copy-editing and proofing text campaigns
  • Overseeing the approval process for above mentioned communications texts
  • Drafting briefings, ensuring accuracy and consistency of messaging
  • Pitching to media about the gallery and external projects as part of a strategy
  • Overseeing logistics for press previews where relevant
  • Coordinating journalist visits, photographers and film crews
  • Preparing press images, captions and information
  • Responding to / redirecting incoming press enquiries
  • Monitoring press coverage and requesting corrections where appropriate
  • Maintaining press contacts database
  • Overseeing and managing development and maintenance of the press archive, sourcing press clippings for secured editorial
  • Ad hoc website updates related to content as necessary
  • Developing concepts for films and editorial concepts
  • Contributing towards audience development initiatives with creative ideas for expanding the audience
  • Serving as onsite coordinator for photographers and AV-crews
  • SEO and generation of inbound traffic
  • Administrating the creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content (for all channels and ads)
  • Identifying and improving organizational development aspects that would improve content (ie: employee training, recognition and rewards for participation in the company’s marketing and online review building).
  • Following a regular publishing schedule and promoting content through social advertising.
  • Leveraging the right tools to manage your content.
  • Implementing a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns.
  • Integrating all channels of marketing (social media, SEO, content marketing, email, print and digital marketing)
  • Managing or overseeing all social advertising campaigns.

Personal specification:
  • Educated to degree level, preferably in arts or humanities subject (BA required)
  • Strong language skills. Fluent in spoken and written English, with at least one other language desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated skill in writing about art and exhibitions
  • Excellent skills in Adobe CS5, particularly Photoshop and InDesign (essential), working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mac OSX
  • Experience of working in an international gallery is preferred
  • Experience at a PR agency is desired
This is a full time permanent role, based in Central London.
