About this position

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance (Decision Support), this role will be responsible for supporting all aspects of planning, budgeting and performance reporting for a number of departments within our Artistic Programmes and Marketing & Audiences Pillars. You will have line management responsibility for a Junior Finance Analyst, who supports our Commercial and Visitor & Friends Experience Pillar. This role provides business partnering to the senior management team for two of our largest revenue streams.

Please note, this is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract.

About you

An energetic and ambitious self-starter, you will have the ability to plan, manage and control complex workloads to tight deadlines. You will have a confident, inquisitive manner and substantial business partnering experience, working closely with, and presenting to, senior management and non-finance staff. You will be a qualified accountant with experience of managing and working in complex, multi-stakeholder projects and have advanced Excel and modelling skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:                    Senior Finance Analyst

Department:               Finance

Reports to:                 Deputy Director of Finance (Decision Support)

MAIN OBJECTIVES

Under the general direction and management of the Deputy Director of Finance (Decision Support) “DDS”:

  • Act as a business partner to designated departments (namely Exhibitions, Architecture, Marketing, Communications and Digital and any other designated departments as assigned by the DDS). Develop excellent working relationships and provide insight, advice and support on various aspects of financial and commercial decision making.
  • Prepare timely, relevant and accurate management reporting and insightful financial analysis to enable performance evaluation, budgetary control and promote accountability.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in financial reporting and data analysis, month end close processes, forecasting & medium term strategic and financial planning.
  • Support a Junior Finance Analyst to provide excellent business partnering support to their designated departments (Commercial and Visitor & Friends Experience and Publishing) whilst supporting their ongoing development.

 

MAIN DUTIES

  • Act as the key Finance business partner for designated departments, regularly meeting and liaising with stakeholders to ensure appropriate reporting, budgeting and forecasting and to provide ad hoc support to assist with decision making.
  • Manage a Junior Finance Analyst to support them in fulfilling the objectives of their role.
  • Produce timely, relevant and accurate monthly management reports for designated departments, including preparation of accruals, deferrals and delivery of any other month-end close processes in line with accounting standards and the monthly reporting timetable.
  • Provide useful and insightful financial analysis and reporting for all owned areas for inclusion in the monthly Management Information Pack (“MIP”). Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Share responsibility for production of the MIP for distribution to the RA and various committees, which includes KPIs, variance analysis, risks and opportunities tracking and cash flow reporting.
  • Keep the DDS and Budget Holders regularly informed of any changes, risks or activities impacting on financial performance within designated departments, and ensure all known risks kept up to date in Risk Register.
  • Drive ongoing month-end process and reporting improvements and efficiencies, assisting in the development of improved templates for all financial reports. Ensure all reports are produced as efficiently as possible, are accurate and are useful, useable and used by their intended audience.
  • Lead key stakeholders through the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes, challenging and analysing budget and forecasting submissions, and ensuring accuracy of financial projections before entry into the accounting systems and other reporting tools.
  • Work closely with Strategy and your designated departments on the annual update of the Medium-Term Plan (“MTP”), developing models for new business initiatives, challenging financial plans and assumptions and providing scenario analysis to help understand risks and opportunities in achieving targets.
  • Support the Exhibition audience forecasting process, preparing financial modelling on visitation, capacity planning and pricing. Ensure all changes are captured as part of the planning cycle and presented to respective stakeholders and committees for approval.
  • Ensure that correct authorisation procedures are followed for invoices and expenses liaising with the Accounting Services team. Provide support to non-finance stakeholders in the effective use of finance systems, in using and understanding finance reporting and generally improving adherence to finance policies and procedures.
  • Report on third party catering sales to the Director of Commercial and Visitor Experience and monitor performance in line with contract terms, liaising directly with the third-party caterer as required.
  • Support external and internal audit processes and provide input into the preparation of statutory reporting and accounts, where required.
  • Undertake any other duty, which may reasonably be allocated by the DDS, Director of Finance or other Senior Officer.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety policies, procedures and regulations are known, understood and complied with by yourself, your team (if applicable) and any contractors, suppliers and all others who work with the team.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Qualified Accountant – ideally CIMA, ACA or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced, complex organisation with multiple internal stakeholders and competing priorities. A flexible and energetic approach to delivering to deadlines within tight schedules.
  • Experience of people management.
  • An inquisitive, creative-thinker, comfortable with challenging status quo and initiating projects or improvements under minimal direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, confident presenting to and building relationships with staff and senior management of all levels.
  • Strong technical accounting skills, audit experience preferred.
  • Excellent IT skills, advanced user of Excel with experience of building complex financial models, VBA preferred. PowerPoint and data visualisation experience preferred.
  • Financial systems experience – preferably SUN Accounts, Q&A, IPOS and Navision would be an advantage.
  • Experience in project management (ideally with a recognised qualification) and project accounting.
  • Assertive, persuasive, objective and resilient in approach.
  • An interest in the visual arts and a commitment to the aims and objectives of the RA.
