Gallery Manager & Registrar required at International gallery

We are seeking a full time Gallery Manager & Registrar for an International gallery of Modern Art in Mayfair. Our client deals in major Old Master, Nineteenth Century, Modern, and Contemporary artworks, and works with major international institutions and private collectors.
The successful candidate will form a key part of the gallery team and represent the gallery during exhibitions and fairs, alongside stock management, registration, and general gallery management duties.
Role Specification:
  • Full responsibility for gallery operations and the shipment of stock and consignments to international locations.
  • Import and export formalities and paperwork including application for and administration of export licences.
  • Operating the temporary admissions account and administering bond formalities.
  • Overseeing installation of gallery exhibitions, art fairs and at collector’s homes.
  • Representing the gallery at art fairs, openings; client liaison.
  • Technical management of participation at art fairs and set-up of stands.
  • Technical management of the gallery – lighting, storage, IT, organisation of private views and events.
  • Management of stock including organising photography, restoration, framing, archiving, updating database and managing stock files.
  • Management of technicians, gallery assistants and interns.
Candidate Specification:
  • At least 2 years experience in a similar role.
  • Historical art background, ideally academic or through working in the art world.
  • Working knowledge of import and export formalities, bond, and TA.
  • Capable of managing shipments of stock to fairs and other international locations.
  • Experience in stock control and logistics.
  • Attention to detail, with a meticulous approach to data and archiving.
  • Confident and reliable at handling and installing artworks.
  • Dedicated and trustworthy, flexible and enthusiastic.
  • Previous experience in gallery sales is preferred.
  • A second European language is advantageous but not required.
The position reports to the Director and Owners, working in a small team spread between galleries in London and Italy.
This is a full time role, 10 – 6 Monday – Friday, based in Mayfair.
Salary c. £25,000 – 35,000 (with some flexibility)
