SUMMARY

Seeking a confident, energetic and nimble Communications expert to join the Christie’s EMEA team for this maternity cover position.  This role will suit an experienced practitioner, used to devising, leading and delivering comms campaigns for audience development as well as reaching existing audiences, together with the ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders.  The candidate will have relevant experience and existing relationships with arts, cultural and lifestyle media contacts, be a strong writer, enjoy working collaboratively, and will exhibit a flair for developing a deep understanding of business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Media and communications campaign strategy and delivery for departments within Christie’s business as assigned (Decorative Arts, Old Masters, Private Collections and Classic Week marquee), including pre-sale coverage, press calls and auction reporting as well as ongoing profile raising for key individuals, business expertise and business authority
  • Creative communications ideas generation and delivery across categories with particular focus on reaching new and cross category audiences in addition to existing client base
  • Internal presentations, analysis and reports to support comms team successes to the wider business
  • Implementation of issues driven reactive communications work
  • Collaborative work with EMEA Communications colleagues as well as those in The Americas and Asia.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Duties include but are not limited to the following):

  • Maintenance of pro-active, ongoing repertoire with journalists, correspondents, picture desks and other relevant external contacts crucial to the success of implementing pro-active media strategies, also including but not restricted to influencers and collaborators
  • Drafting announcements, pitches to journalists, approvals process, logistics and securing media coverage
  • Organisation and delivery of media events
  • Development and nurturing of relationships with individual specialist departments, marketing and content, ensuring good communication and teamwork to drive successful implementation
  • Field enquiries from assigned media, identify ahead of time and troubleshoot issues as they come up, working with the wider team
  • Support of the wider EMEA communications team during auctions
  • Ability to work collaboratively cross market with communications colleagues in the Americas and Asia
  • Use Christie’s systems to access sale results, images and other statistical data in response to requests

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • An engaging and enthusiastic best in class communicator
  • Successful candidate will have minimum of 5+ years experience either in-house or with a PR agency
  • Strong creative writing and boundless ideas generation
  • Impeccable media relations across wide variety of new and traditional media outlets and routes to engage with arts, culture and lifestyle related media
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering coverage in a range of media outlets
  • Ability to manage high workload and plan accordingly
  • Ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders / excellent interpersonal skills
  • Calmness under pressure
  • Flexibility in ways of working and adapting to changing media landscape
  • Excel and usual office desktop packages including Microsoft Teams
  • Design capabilities a plus to include Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or equivalent
  • Position is full time maternity cover, and will include expectation of availability for occasional evening and weekend events
