The Royal Academy is offering an exciting opportunity to join its HR team for an 18-month apprenticeship. As an apprentice, you will undertake the role of HR Assistant, supporting the wider team while developing knowledge of HR processes and administration. At the end of your apprenticeship you will have a CIPD Level 3 certificate in Human Resource Practice.

Whether you already have some work experience in an HR environment, or had never even considered a career in HR, this might be the opportunity for you. What’s most important is that you are willing to learn, grow and develop a career both within HR and with the Royal Academy.

About the apprenticeship

This apprenticeship offers invaluable experience working in a HR role within a major arts institution. Our HR team supports more than 380 staff members and up to a further 150 temporary workers during our busy exhibition periods. We also support volunteering, internships, traineeships, apprenticeships and work experience opportunities. The team delivers a range of HR services, covering the employee lifecycle from recruitment, induction, Learning & Development, performance management and employee relations to compensation, benefits and pensions.

This is a newly created position within the HR Team and there will be room to grow and develop throughout your experience. As an HR Assistant you will be integral to the successful operation of our team and will be expected to support across all areas of the business – providing you with a range of opportunities to learn. You will be involved in rolling out our new initiatives and learn about how to provide HR advice and support to RA employees. This is a learning opportunity and full training will be provided, both on-the-job and through your apprenticeship training provider.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Onboarding and Leaver Administration – reference requests, preparing welcome packs, coordinating inductions, managing the exit interview process, liaising with payroll and ensuring employees are added to our HR system (Cascade).
  • Contractual Paperwork – preparing contracts, managing changes in terms with HR Business Partner or Officer, logging changes in our HR system.
  • HR Database – user and administrator of our HR system, inputting and maintaining employee records, assisting with monthly payroll, building queries, producing reports for the HR Business Partner or HR Officer.
  • Performance Management and Learning & Development – supporting HR Business Partners with roll out of our performance review, reporting on Cascade, updating and collating training, assisting with the coordination of training initiatives.
  • HR Advice / Operations – providing accurate advice when requested by staff members
  • General tasks – maintaining personnel files, coding invoices and using our IPOS system, undertaking any other reasonable duties.

 

Person Specification:

  • Enthusiastic about exploring a career in HR
  • Approachable, friendly and empathetic nature
  • Able to create good working relationships
  • Interested in working with people
  • Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Hardworking and accurate
  • Strong communication skills – both over the phone and in person
  • Strong writing skills
  • Computer literate (experience with Microsoft Office is desirable)
  • Grade C or above in GSCE Maths and English (or equivalent) is essential
