Intern – Asian Art Department, Chinese Works of Art

Provide day-to-day support to the Asian Department, specifically Chinese Works of Art, with the potential to develop both administrative and specialist skills.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • To support the Sale Coordinators and Specialists in the day to day running of the Department
  • Research lots including authenticity, bibliography, provenance and exhibition history using publications, London libraries and online resources
  • Write catalogue entries and catalogue notes for lots in collaboration with the Heads of Sales and Specialists
  • Writing advice letters and responding to estimate requests by post and email
  • Ensuring that all telephone calls are answered and messages are transferred
  • Assisting Specialists and Sale Coordinators with the catalogue, sale preparation and sale view
  • Typing, correcting and amending valuations and proposals
  • Assisting in the warehouse with works of art when required
  • Upkeep of departmental libraries and offices
  • Assist in taking condition images requested by clients

Candidate skills & attributes:

  • Strong IT skills with familiarity of all Microsoft packages including Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills
  • Ability to demonstrate an interest in Asian art
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Fluency in written and spoken Chinese desirable
  • Ability to prioritise, manage time effectively and work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Experience in providing client service in a commercial arts environment
  • Ability to demonstrate client facing experience
