International Business Director – Handbags and Accessories

PRIMARY FUNCTION/POSITION SUMMARY:
Senior leader for the Handbags department with a broad focus on strategy, best practice business-getting, pipeline management and selling the sales, deal approval, P&L management, development of growth opportunities across channels, tight cost management, overall department operation, talent management and stakeholder relations. The IBD is accountable for the management and strategic planning globally in partnership with Specialist Heads of Sale and regional business managers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Duties include but are not limited to the following):
Essential job functions:
  • Provide strategic business leadership and direction for the Department
  • Set, manage and monitor budgets and targets in conjunction with GMD and Specialist Heads of Sale. Make sure that the senior specialists are informed of the Department financial performance and Company’s alike
  • Manage and drive pipeline: Work with Specialists to drive pipeline business and develop best practices to meet strategic and sale curation objectives
  • Work with Specialists to structure and negotiate profitable deals within approved authority matrix and commercial parameters, such as deal capital
  • Develop and implement best practices for business-getting and selling the sales.
  • Collaborate with internal partners including Marketing, Press, Events, and Client Strategy to develop creative marketing initiatives, partnerships, and events and ensure effective strategies are in place
  • Manage senior stakeholder relationships to ensure on-going support and knowledge of the department strategy
  • Manage operating costs and identify and implement effective cost-control, recoveries or revenue increase measures
  • Partner with Finance Business Partner to ensure delivery of accurate information to support financial reporting
  • Work with relevant partners in Client Strategy and Finance to ensure accurate results and statistics for each sale
  • Lead bi-weekly departmental update calls, annual off-sites, and pre-sale interest meetings to ensure global alignment, engagement and best practice
  • Work with Global Managing Director on leading and communicating procedural or management changes
  • Ensure the appropriate staffing levels are in place within corporate restrictions for department to meet corporate and departmental objectives
  • Develop succession plans where appropriate, identify and develop top talents and fill skills or geographic talent gaps
  • Directly supervise Specialist and Sale Management teams: responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; developing and implementing business-getting and selling best practices; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Collaborate with CSBI (Regional and Luxury) and Marketing teams to ensure appropriate coverage of the existing client base and encourage recruitment of new clients
  • Resolve escalated client issues and liaise with partner departments as needed
 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Similar professional qualification, or equivalent field, or an undergraduate degree with a minimum of 8 years work experience
  • People management experience
  • Commercial and strategic mindset with proven ability to deliver on financial targets
  • Ability to think creatively in deal structuring and have strong negotiating skills
  • Be able to lead and develop a team and build strong working relationships across departments
  • Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong financial skills (in budgeting and reforecasting)
  • Record of successful driving and implementation of change
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and sites
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to creatively problem solve and manage conflict
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong systems expertise in E-mail, Spreadsheet, Word Processing and Presentation software (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to learn Christie’s systems including COS, JDE, Christie’s intranet and website
  • Hyperion knowledge an advantage
  • Languages an advantage
  • Appreciation and understanding of handbags and market specificities is an important advantage
