Object Intelligence Researcher – Post-War & Contemporary Art

Responsible for providing Post-War & Contemporary Art with comprehensive research on high-value objects, updating and maintaining objects’ data on Christie’s databases, and supporting the department’s strategic Object Intelligence initiatives.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Gather in-depth intelligence on artworks using external sources (catalogues raisonnés, auction results databases, museum websites, etc.)
  • Retrieve in-depth intelligence on artworks using internal sources (Christie’s valuations, etc.)
  • Input and consolidate high volume of object-related data daily, continually improving intelligence in Christie’s database
  • Create bespoke reports on objects and artists from Christie’s systems to support Specialists’ sourcing and selling efforts
  • Prepare and present post-auction debriefs, with a focus on competitive sales
  • Monitor and capture high-end market activity at art fairs and galleries, developing knowledge of competitive landscape in the Post-War & Contemporary Art market
  • Build new artist projects for Christie’s database – identify, document, and collate full object research along with complete market and ownership histories of all works in an artist’s oeuvre
  • Deliver data and analysis to support Client and Regional Reviews, as well as other strategic projects for the global PWC Client Strategy Business Intelligence team
  • Become an expert and champion in Christie’s various data systems: Object Finder, COS, etc.
  • Provide support to Object Research Managers, Client Strategy Director, and Business Director, as required

Candidate skills & attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree (as a minimum) in a relevant subject
  • At least 1 year of paid, non-internship work experience; commercial art world experience preferred
  • Knowledge of and interest in Post-War & Contemporary Art is essential
  • Meticulous attention to detail; a precise, thorough, and enthusiastic researcher
  • Superior knowledge of Excel; familiarity with database management a plus
  • Strong work ethic; self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently on long-term projects
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and diplomacy
  • Advanced user of Christie’s data systems (especially COS) is a plus
